Ailany — after entering the girls’ top 1,000 for the first time in 2023 — nearly reached the top 100 in 2024, then came close to making the top 10 in 2025. I wish I knew what was making it so trendy! If you have an explanation (or want to make a guess), please leave a comment!

My best guess is that it’s popular with Hispanics and reflects the increase in the Hispanic population, also seen with Sofia and Eliana.
Gosh, never had so much trouble finding specific inspirations for names rising in popularity. Most of these seem inspired by sounds — they’re novel and completely on-trend, but it’s rare that I’m finding a specific influencer or baby or news story that informs their rise.
The only potential links I’ve found so far:
– Jesly rhymes with Esli, which rose super super fast for girls last year. There’s an influencer Jesly Cruz, though her following is not huge on YT/IG/TT. She did have a Tiktok in 2025 with a relatively high viewcount.
– Liamani is an influencer with 800K Tiktok followers.
Ailany’s got to be an all-time historic case. Wow, debuting in the top 1000 in 2023, and already at #14. That’s literally unprecedented. And the fact that no one’s been able to find a definitive pop culture influence? If its meteoric jump in popularity is truly driven by an in-group’s organic momentum, then that’s astounding.
Ailany fits a popular sound pattern that probably has some crossover to parents of all backgrounds. I’d expect to see Ailani or Aylani more with English speakers. All three names are quite popular. The long a sound and the -ani ending are just extremely popular right now.
@alex – Thank you very much for trying! I’m having a hard time finding anything concrete as well.
Some thoughts on Ailany: It’s certainly on-trend, sound-wise. But I don’t think sound is enough — I believe the explosive rise must have been triggered by something specific. (Why this particular -lani name? Why this particular spelling?) It may take us a while to figure it out, but I do think there’s an answer, and it probably has to do with Spanish-language social media. (Maybe a Spanish TikTok/IG video featuring a child named Ailany that went viral in late 2023 or early 2024…?)
