Here’s more from the SSA’s news release:

Beyond the top 10, 2025’s fastest movers tell their own story. The boys’ name Kasai, meaning “fire” in Japanese and Swahili, surged 1,108 positions to enter the top 1,000 for the first time, landing at 639. For girls, Klarity, a contemporary spelling of “clarity” evoking brightness and light, led all risers.

(If you want to see more of the fast-rising names, here’s the SSA’s Change in Popularity page.)

I’ll be writing posts about the new names throughout the day and over the weekend, so stay tuned!

Popular baby names in Malta, 2025

Flag of Malta
Flag of Malta

The Mediterranean island nation of Malta is located south of Sicily and north of Libya.

Last year, Malta welcomed 4,368 babies — 2,125 girls and 2,243 boys. More than 92% of these babies were born on Malta itself, while the rest were born on the island of Gozo. (I believe this is the first time that Malta’s baby name rankings have accounted for Gozo, the second-largest island in the Maltese Archipelago.)

What were the most popular names among all these babies? Emma and Noah.
