How popular is the baby name Kaden in the United States right now? How popular was it historically? Use the popularity graph and data table below to find out! Plus, see all the blog posts that mention the name Kaden.
The graph will take a few moments to load. (Don't worry, it shouldn't take 9 months!) If it's taking too long, try reloading the page.
1. Aiden 2. Kaden 3. Ethan 4. Jackson 5. Jacob 6. Jayden 7. Brayden 8. Alexander 9. Christopher 10. Logan
1. Addison 2. Emma 3. Madison 4. Ava 5. Hailey 6. Emily 7. Abigail 8. Katelyn 9. Kaylee 10. Isabella
Why the difference?
The SSA counted each spelling variant of a name separately, while the Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment lumped variants together. This is how trendy names like Hailey, Kaylee, Aiden and Kaden (i.e. names that are spelled many different ways) managed to make the Kansas list but not the SSA list.
Which type of list do you prefer? (Keep in mind that while the latter type may seem more realistic/representative, it can also be executed poorly.)
According to the SSA, the top ten baby boy names of 2007 were Jacob, Michael, Ethan, Joshua, Daniel, Christopher, Anthony, William, Matthew and Andrew (in that order). The SSA rankings don’t account for spelling variations, though, so I’ve decided to create a more realistic top ten list:
Christopher (19,782) Kristopher (691) Cristopher (571) Cristofer (259)
21,303 (0.9771%)
6th
Ethan (20,785) Ethen (207)
20,992 (0.9628%)
7th
Joshua (20,254)
20,254 (0.9290%)
8th
Daniel (19,869)
19,869 (0.9113%)
9th
Matthew (18,420) Mathew (912)
19,332 (0.8866%)
10th
Anthony (19,316)
19,316 (0.8859%)
The name Caden also jumps drastically when “adjusted” (i.e., when one lumps in Kaden, Cayden, Kaiden, Caiden, Kadin, Kaeden, and Kadyn). The SSA has it at #92, but with spelling variations included it probably makes the top 20.
Many parents choose to personalize their baby’s name by using a variant spelling. Here are some interesting baby name spellings that have been used recently in southeastern Minnesota, for example:
I found these in a recent article written by Aleta Capelle (who has a pretty cool name herself). The names come from babies born in Olmsted County, Minnesota from July 1, 2006 through July 1, 2007.
