Three-letter “-ia” girl names: Gia, Nia, Sia

3-letter girl names ending with "ia"

After posting about the name Zia a few weeks ago, I thought it would be cool to look for other baby names with the same construction (consonant + –ia) in the SSA’s dataset.

Turns out, nearly all permutations have appeared in the data at some point. Here’s the full list, ordered by 2018 popularity levels:

  • Mia (currently the 7th most popular name for baby girls)
  • Lia (246th)
  • Gia (386th)
  • Nia (474th)
  • Sia (1,344th)
  • Tia (1,423rd)
  • Zia (1,549th)
  • Jia (1,948th)
  • Pia (2,048th)
  • Ria (2,193rd)
  • Dia (3,848th)
  • Via (4,104th)
  • Xia (5,262nd)
  • Fia (5,819th)
  • Kia (7,207th)
  • Bia (13,983rd)
  • Cia (currently unlisted)
  • Yia (currently unlisted)

The only consonants I couldn’t find with an –ia ending were H, Q and W. (But I did happen to notice one –ia named that started with a vowel: Aia.)

Which of the above –ia names do you like best? Why?

Numerology: Baby names with a value of 3

Baby names with a numerological value of 3

If you’re on the hunt for baby names with a numerological value of 3, you’re in luck! Because today’s post features hundreds of 3-names.

Before we get to the names, though — how do we know that they’re “threes” in numerology?

Turning names into numbers

Here’s how to calculate the numerological value of a name.

First, for each letter, come up with a number to represent that letter’s position in the alphabet. (Letter A would be number 1, letter B would be number 2, and so forth.) Then, add all the numbers together. If the sum has two or more digits, add the digits together recursively until the result is a single digit. That single digit is the name’s numerological value.

For instance, the letters in the name Tyson correspond to the numbers 20, 25, 19, 15, and 14. The sum of these numbers is 93. The digits of 93 added together equal 12, and the digits of 12 added together equal 3 — the numerological value of Tyson.

Number 3: Significance and associations

What does the number three mean in numerology?

There’s no definitive answer, unfortunately, because various numerological systems exist, and each one has its own interpretation of the number three. That said, if we look at a couple of modern numerology/astrology websites, we see 3 being described as “creative,” “optimistic,” “friendly,” “outgoing,” and “self-expressive.”

We can also look at associations, which are a bit more concrete. Here are some things that are associated with the number 3:

  • Triple crown (victory in three events)
  • Hat trick (3 goals scored in one game by a single player)
  • Circus (3 rings)
  • Yard (3 feet)
  • Three-act structure (in narrative)
  • Rule of thirds (in photography)
  • Traffic lights
  • Manx flag (3 legs)

What does the number 3 mean to you? What are your strongest associations with the number?

Baby born to Liverpool F.C. fans, named Tia

Liverpool F.C. logo
Liverpool F.C. logo

Kent Roger Solheim of Norway is a big fan of Liverpool F.C.

When he and his partner Carine Heum welcomed their first daughter in early 2018, they named her Ynwa Sofie — YNWA being the acronym for “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” the club’s anthem. They pronounce the name unn-wah.*

And when they welcomed their second daughter this past July, they went with another Liverpool-inspired name: Tia Louise — TIA being the acronym for “This is Anfield,” which refers to the club’s stadium.

Kent said that, if the baby had been a boy, they would have named him George Gerrard — “Gerrard” after former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard, no doubt.

*Another family in Norway with a baby named Ynwa went with the pronunciation yee-nwa.
