It saw another increase in the mid-1980s — though this second spike didn’t last as long, or reach as high. Here are the numbers, followed by the graph:
1986: 58 baby girls named Cyndi
1985: 88 baby girls named Cyndi
1984: 61 baby girls named Cyndi
1983: 28 baby girls named Cyndi

What caused the smaller spike?
Music again — but this time it was a singer, not a song.
Eclectic pop star Cyndi Lauper released her debut album, She’s So Unusual, in October of 1983.
The album produced six singles, four of which became top-5 hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart during 1984:
“Girls Just Want to Have Fun” (reached #2 in March)
“Time After Time” (#1 in June)
“She Bop” (#3 in September)
“All Through the Night” (#5 in December)
Also in 1984, the video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” (below) won the inaugural MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.
Cyndi Lauper was born Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper in 1953 — several years before the names Cynthia and Cindy reached peak trendiness.
At the age of eighteen, she started going by “Cyndi” instead of “Cindy” at the suggestion of a friend with whom she’d been hitchhiking:
So Richie and I headed to Massachusetts, and we would set up camp and sleep in the woods along the way. We were sitting by the fire one time and he said to me, “You know what? You shouldn’t spell your name ‘Cindy,’ you should spell it C-Y-N-D-I.” So I did.
What are your thoughts on the name Cyndi? Which spelling do you prefer?
If you’re on the hunt for baby names with a numerological value of 7, you’re in luck! Because today’s post features hundreds of 7-names.
Before we get to the names, though — how do we know that they’re “sevens” in numerology?
Turning names into numbers
Here’s how to calculate the numerological value of a name.
First, for each letter, come up with a number to represent that letter’s position in the alphabet. (Letter A would be number 1, letter B would be number 2, and so forth.) Then, add all the numbers together. If the sum has two or more digits, add the digits together recursively until the result is a single digit. That single digit is the name’s numerological value.
For instance, the letters in the name Victoria correspond to the numbers 22, 9, 3, 20, 15, 18, 9, and 1. The sum of these numbers is 97. The digits of 97 added together equal 16, and the digits of 16 added together equal 7 — the numerological value of Victoria.
Baby names with a value of 7
Below you’ll find the most popular 7-names per gender, according to the latest U.S. baby name data. I’ve further sub-categorized them by total sums — just in case any of those larger numbers are significant to anyone.
7 via 16
The letters in the following baby names add up to 16, which reduces to seven (1+6=7).
Girl names (7 via 16)
Boy names (7 via 16)
Ana, Jada, Alba, Adaia, Fia
Cal, Chad, Jae, Dak, Efe
7 via 25
The letters in the following baby names add up to 25, which reduces to seven (2+5=7).
There’s no definitive answer, unfortunately, because various numerological systems exist, and each one has its own interpretation of the number seven. That said, if we look at a couple of modern numerology/astrology websites, we see 7 being described as “truth-seeking,” “introspective,” “intellectual,” “reserved,” and “unusual.”
We can also look at associations, which are a bit more concrete. Here are some things that are associated with the number 7:
Richie and Liz are big fans of the Irish alternative rock band Kodaline.
The couple first met at a Kodaline concert, in fact.
In late 2014, they welcomed a baby boy. His name? Kodie, after the band.
And, in April of 2015, when Richie proposed to Liz in a London pub, the band showed up to serenade them.
The band, originally called “21 Demands,” re-named themselves in 2012. They chose the made-up name “Kodaline” largely because it was still available on all the major social media platforms.
Here’s what the band’s drummer, Vinny May, had to say in 2020 about babies being named after the band:
I think there’s two babies. One is called ‘Kodaline’ and one is called ‘Koda’. That’s pretty amazing to have people named after us!
(I’m not sure which of these, if either, refers to baby Kodie.)
