What caused this sudden interest in Ariel as a girl name?

My guess is a television character.

In February of 1982, Swedish-born Ariel Aldrin (played by actress Judith Blazer) was introduced on the long-running CBS soap opera As The World Turns.

During her time on the show, Ariel worked as a model at the local fashion emporium (“Fashions, Ltd.”) and married two different men: Dr. John Dixon (who she’d mistakenly believed was wealthy) and Burke Donovan (who’s son, she’d discovered, was the heir to a fortune). Neither relationship lasted very long. She “left town to pursue a European count” in 1984.

P.S. Earlier in the ’80s, the name may have been influenced (slightly) by Princess Ariel, one of the main characters of the Saturday morning cartoon Thundarr the Barbarian (1980-1981).

Popular baby names in Casper (Wyoming), 2020

In 2020, the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper welcomed 892 babies. The names of about 620 of these babies were shared online via the hospital’s website. A few days ago, the hospital “mined those announcements for our most popular names list for 2020,” finding that the most frequently occurring names for girls was Paisley and for boys was Jackson.

I don’t usually post rankings from non-governmental sources, but, in this case, there were just so many names in comparison to the size of the city (about 58,000 residents) that I decided to go ahead and publish the full list…

Here’s how to calculate the numerological value of a name.

First, for each letter, come up with a number to represent that letter’s position in the alphabet. (Letter A would be number 1, letter B would be number 2, and so forth.) Then, add all the numbers together. If the sum has two or more digits, add the digits together recursively until the result is a single digit. That single digit is the name’s numerological value.

What does the number three mean in numerology?

There’s no definitive answer, unfortunately, because various numerological systems exist, and each one has its own interpretation of the number three. Baby name story: Becket Wilberforce

Conservative journalist Matt Lewis welcomed his second son on November 12.

The baby’s name? Becket Wilberforce Lewis, in honor of St. Thomas Becket (1118-1170) and British politician William Wilberforce (1759-1833).

“[M]y wife and I agreed on interesting names that were also significant. Since I’m a writer, a lot of people think Samuel Beckett, but the first name is after Thomas Becket.”

Lewis considers William Wilberforce is among his heroes. “He led the movement to abolish the slave trade in Great Britain, and is a prime example of a statesman who used the political process to bring about positive change in the world,” he said.

Becket’s older bother, Burke, was named for British politician Edmund Burke (1729-1797).

Lewis suggests in “3 political heroes as admirable as Lincoln” that, if he and his wife have a third son, he might be named Bonhoeffer after German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945).

P.S. The surname Wilberforce can be traced back to the place name Wilberfoss, which is a village eight miles east of York. Wilberfoss is made up of the elements Wilberg, an Old English feminine name, and foss, Old English for “ditch.”
