Numerology: Baby names with a value of 1

Baby names with a numerological value of 1

If you’re on the hunt for baby names with a numerological value of 1, you’re in luck! Because today’s post features hundreds of 1-names.

Before we get to the names, though — how do we know that they’re “ones” in numerology?

Turning names into numbers

Here’s how to calculate the numerological value of a name.

First, for each letter, come up with a number to represent that letter’s position in the alphabet. (Letter A would be number 1, letter B would be number 2, and so forth.) Then, add all the numbers together. If the sum has two or more digits, add the digits together recursively until the result is a single digit. That single digit is the name’s numerological value.

For instance, the letters in the name Taylor correspond to the numbers 20, 1, 25, 12, 15, and 18. The sum of these numbers is 91. The digits of 91 added together equal 10, and the digits of 10 added together equal 1 — the numerological value of Taylor.

Number 1: Significance and associations

What does the number one mean in numerology?

There’s no definitive answer, unfortunately, because various numerological systems exist, and each one has its own interpretation of the number one. That said, if we look at a couple of modern numerology/astrology websites, we see 1 being described as “leader,” “independent,” “determined,” “creative,” and “self-assured.”

We can also look at associations, which are a bit more concrete. Here are a few things that are associated with the number 1:

  • Unity
  • Uniqueness
  • First place (as in sports)
  • Unicorn
  • Monolith

I kept the list short because you can associate the number 1 with just about anything. It’s universal, you might say. (See what I did there?)

What does the number 1 mean to you? What are your strongest associations with the number?

P.S. To see names with other numerological values, check out the posts for the numbers two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine.

Baby name predictions: Ellar, Iselle, Seanix

Prediction time!

Here are three names that might see increased usage in 2014, thanks to popular culture…

Ellar

I’ve been hearing a lot about Boyhood (2014) recently. The movie, which took 12 years to film, stars Ellar Coltrane as a boy named Mason. The baby name Mason has become quite popular within the last 12 years, but Ellar remains entirely off the radar. Is that about to change?

Iselle

Tropical Storm Iselle
Tropical storm Iselle closing in on Hawaii (August 8)

Two of the biggest storms to hit the state of Hawaii, Iniki and Iselle, both happen to start with the letter I. We know Iniki influenced the baby name charts back in the early 1990s, but we’ll have to wait and see about Iselle. What do you think — will we see more babies named Iselle in 2014?

(Ignacio, Isis, Irwin, Ileana and Ivo are the I-names on reserve for future storms in the area.)

Seanix

Never overlook reality TV when it comes to baby names. A relatively new series called Treehouse Masters includes a cast member/carpenter named Seanix (pronounced SHAWN-icks). If the name Carmindy can last on the charts for 6 years, I think Seanix certainly stands a chance. What do you think?

Other 2014 predictions so far include Lacey and Zarina. Do you have any more to add to the list?

Baby names for the end of the world?

Mayan god Bolon Yokte' (middle)

You guys know the world is ending in two weeks, right?

At least, that’s how popular culture has misinterpreted the ending of the 13th b’ak’tun of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar on December 21, 2012.

If your due date is December 21, why not commemorate the date with an “end of the world”-inspired baby name?

No, I’m not suggesting you go with something ridiculous like Armageddon or Apocalypse. (Though I have seen both used as names. Examples: Armageddon James Margerum, born in England in 1833, and Ulysses Apocalypse Johnson, born in California in 1992.)

Instead, try a name with a less obvious “end of the world” connection. Perhaps one of these:

  • Maya – the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar is most commonly associated with the Maya
  • Jeremiah – inspired by Maya
  • Nehemiah – inspired by Maya
  • Deedee – short for doomsday
  • Ann – short for annihilation
  • Catherine – inspired by cataclysm
  • Calypso – inspired by apocalypse
  • Arma – short for armageddon
  • Armand – inspired by armageddon
  • Armando – inspired by armageddon
  • Gideon – inspired by armageddon
  • Don – short for armageddon

Or try one of the dozens of names that happen to contain the word “end” (short for “end of the world,” of course).

  • Aviendha
  • Brenda
  • Brendan
  • Enda
  • Ender
  • Endia
  • Erendira
  • Glenda
  • Glendon
  • Glendora
  • Gwendolen/Gwendolyn
  • Henderson
  • Hendrik/Hendrick
  • Hendrika
  • Hendrix
  • Kendall
  • Kendra
  • Kendrick
  • Lavender
  • Legend
  • Mendel
  • Nagendra
  • Penda
  • Pendleton
  • Rajendra
  • Rosenda
  • Rosendo
  • Surendra
  • Townsend
  • Vendela
  • Wendell
  • Wendy
  • Zenda
  • Zendaya

What other “end of the world” baby names can you think of?
